Session Six - It's not good-bye...

Here's a link to an article that someone emailed to me as a suggested Socratic Seminar piece. I think you'll enjoy the quotes! http://ode-magazine.net/Intelligent_Optimist/11172010.htm

It's been a terrific six weeks with all of you! I will leave the blog up so you can refer back here for the links or to add some that you've found or to seek help. You can follow this blog so that you'll be notified of new additions to it.

Thank you for a terrific course. I've learned a lot from all of you!

  1. Thanks so much, Marion! This has been such a positive way to end my MA + 60 experience! Wish all my classes could have been so helpful and practical. I have no doubt my students will benefit as much as I have.

  2. Here's the link to the "Afghan girl" article. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2002/04/afghan-girl/index-text

You can get the picture by typing "Afghan girl" into google. The questions I asked toprompt the students:
    Picture analysis:
-What strikes you in this picture? WHY?
-What else do you notice? Why?
-What is the mood/tone of this photograph?
    -Connections?
    -Patterns?
-Can you identify a theme that applies to this photograph? How can we relate this theme to other works?

  3. Thanks Ellen and Diana!! The socratic seminars were great. I really enjoyed the pieces you both chose.

I'm really glad to have all of the resources given to us by Marion as well as all of those brought in by the group. I hope to implement many of the fabulous ideas that we have discussed. The experience of developing a seminar and getting feedback from the group was very valubale.

It's been a pleasure working with you all!

  4. It has been a nice experience working with all of you. Marion, you really did a nice job- as I expected! What's more, I will be able to incorporate this into my co-teaching class.
The article on the "Intelligent Optimist" was interesting, and I did enjoy the quotes.
